AI and Machine Learning Internship: A Beginner Roadmap

AI and machine learning internships attract a lot of interest, and a lot of confusion about where to begin. You do not need a research background. You need Python, a few core concepts and a handful of honest projects.

Start with the foundations

• Python, including functions, lists and dictionaries
• Pandas and NumPy for handling data
• Basic statistics and probability
• Just enough linear algebra to understand vectors and matrices
• Git and GitHub

Core machine learning concepts

• Supervised vs unsupervised learning
• Training, validation and test sets
• Overfitting and underfitting
• Regression and classification
• Evaluation metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall and RMSE

A realistic roadmap

1. Weeks 1 to 2: strengthen Python and data handling. See the Python internship guide.
2. Week 3: learn core ML ideas and train a first model with scikit-learn.
3. Week 4: build a small project end to end, from data to evaluation.
4. Week 5: document it, publish it and write a short summary of what you learned.

Show your work well
